Rachel Ellen is a San Diego-based artist whose vibrant, texture-rich paintings are inspired by the world around her. Her work draws heavily from the striking aerial views of tannery landscapes in Africa, where vivid pools of color create mosaic-like patterns across the earth. Rachel's love for color and texture is further fueled by her travels to oceans and botanical gardens, which continually refresh her creative vision.

Using Golden acrylic paints as her medium of choice, Rachel builds her compositions with layers of molding pastes, gels, and glazes to create multi-dimensional works that captivate the viewer's eye. Her Honeycomb Series reflects a fascinating blend of chaos and order, inspired by the busy bee mentality, yet infused with moments of calm and balance. Each piece invites you to explore texture, depth, and color in a way that feels both playful and purposeful.

RachelheArtworks mission :

I create art that speaks from the soul and connects through color, texture, and intention. Inspired by the beauty of imperfection and the power of connection, my pieces are rooted in heart-centered expression and the healing rhythm of mosaic forms. Whether through canvas, print, or commission, my mission is to bring warmth, joy, and meaning into the spaces we live and love in.

ABOUT ME

Rachel Ellen is a San Diego native with a lifelong passion for color, creativity, and self-expression.

Growing up in a city that's as dynamic as it is beautiful, Rachel's love for nature was sparked by the vibrant flowers, stunning sunsets, and ever-changing waters she encountered as she moved from place to place.

With over 20 years as a hairstylist, Rachel has spent her career blending colors and shapes, honing a keen eye for aesthetics and detail that she now pours into her artwork.

Art has always been Rachel's personal language, a way to express herself and bring joy to others. As a child, she found comfort in intricate, repetitive designs that provided peace and balance amidst the chaos of her upbringing. Today, her work continues to reflect that journey-transforming chaos into beauty through colors, textures, and patterns that evoke emotion and invite reflection.

  • I’ve admired Rachel Ellen’s work for over a decade, so commissioning a piece from her was a dream come true. The result, La Marée Rouge, exceeded all expectations—it’s a stunning, 4x3 ft mosaic-like painting full of movement, texture, and warmth. Rachel brought my color palette of blush, cream, and deep red to life with her signature acrylic drip technique and gold foil accents that shimmer beautifully in the light. The hand-built frame and intricate hexagonal surface add depth and a sense of flow that truly captures the essence of a shifting tide. It’s more than a painting—it’s a timeless collaboration I’ll treasure forever.

  • After admiring various works of Rachel’s, including an incredibly beautiful piece displayed at Indigo salon, I contacted her about painting a custom piece for me. I had never done this before, and was a little apprehensive, but Rachel was wonderful to work with. She listened to what I liked, and consulted with me through out, sending me images of the work in progress and updates as she worked on it. It hangs in our front hallway and makes me happy every time I come in the house.

  • I gave Rachel just a hint of direction—a few favorite colors—and what she created completely exceeded my expectations. The rich texture and depth from her use of mixed materials make the piece feel vibrant and alive. It fits so naturally in my home, and every time I pass by it, I’m reminded of how much I love it. Rachel’s intuitive, creative gift is truly one of a kind.
